The Beginning
A lot of events can happen in eight years. Eight years, six months ago to be exact. In a way, May 28th was almost like a birthday to me. A day that has been implanted and repeated in my head so many times that it would be nearly impossible for me to forget. May 28th was just your average beginning of summer day. The bright yellow sun was merrily shining over the town of Orange Springs, Illinois. Clouds of many shapes danced across the blue sky the way ballerinas twirl around a stage. I was eleven years old and about to turn twelve on June 18th. Orange Springs was quite a small town, but the best one I have ever lived in. My closest friends lived within bike riding distance and my best friend Amanda lived down the street. Just a few days before May 28th, was my last day of elementary school. Amanda, Stacy, Monica, Melody, and I Valerie had a giant sleepover the night before the big day. Monica was the most outgoing in the group and the one most like a teenager. She had already started wearing bras and reading gossip magazines. Stacy was quiet but definitely not boring. Her dad is a pilot in the Marines and has traveled almost everywhere in the world. Melody is the funny one in the group and can make anyone smile during the roughest of times. Amanda is the one how will tell you how it is, no matter how much it hurts. She also is the one who gives us all advice and happens to my best friend. Me, I’m the one who loves taking chances but is sometimes too scared to take them. Dare me to eat a gallon of relish, I’ll do it. But dare me to walk up to the cutest boy in class and tell him he’s hot, I probably won’t. The sleepover we had the night of May 12th was one that will not be forgotten. It seemed that from then on, everything started to change. And then came the morning of May 28th.

Valerie
We were all surrounded on pink carpet of Monica’s room. Her room was huge and was the perfect room for a sleepover. Bags of Doriatos, Lays, and my favorite Aunt Vicky’s Sea Salt chips lined the floor along with a variety of sugary sodas, Tigerbeat, and a pile of Aaron Carter and Hilary Duff Cds. I was testing out Monica’s new neon pink nail polish
