Christians, how do you know that the bible is exactly true?
Ok, I acknowledge that it’s the word of God, but it was officially written by human beings right? And isn’t there a saying that all people make mistakes. So what if an messenger (say John for example) written something wrong or simply made a mistake? I also read in the book of revelations 10 called "The Angel and the Little Scroll" that an angel told the writer to NOT write something… please read:
1Then I saw another mighty angel coming down from heaven. He was robed in a cloud, with a rainbow above his head; his face was like the sun, and his legs were like fiery pillars. 2He was holding a little scroll, which lay open in his hand. He planted his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land, 3and he gave a loud shout like the roar of a lion. When he shouted, the voices of the seven thunders spoke. 4And when the seven thunders spoke, I was about to write; but I heard a voice from heaven say, "Seal up what the seven thunders have said and do not write it down."
Now how can we even make assumptions (eg: "gays are an obination to God", or "if you sin you will go to Hell", etc..) using the bible when we are just human, was made by humans and even shows us things that were spoken but never written at all…makes you kind of think doesn’t it? What can we trust in the bible and what not? What did the seven thunders say that was never written, will we ever know? What is your opinion on this? thx.
My heart tells me it is
Truly listening to my heart has never failed.
But many things are metaphors in the bible, and many things were written for the culture of the time and place.

The whole bible is a book of salvation through and through. It was recorded so that we can become perfect as God is perfect. But many can’t read the bible hence becoming imperfect. We have millions of imperfect Christians around, all challenging God.

it’s true because Jesus Himself said it was true…
John 10:34 Jesus answered, "It is written in your law that God said, ‘I said, you are gods.’[a] 35 This Scripture called those people gods who received God’s message, and Scripture is always true.
Note where He says "and Scripture is always true."

The bible isn’t all true.
My religion teacher thought that the STORIES in the bible so meaning and a way of teaching. For example: The ugly duckling. It is totally false but it shows meaning and teaches to not judge a book by it’s cover.

In Revelation 10:4 where it says that he didn’t write it down, it’s mostly symbolic. Later on, it’s found out that he eats the scroll that he wrote, meaning that this information was for an appointed time, that right now it wouldn’t be understood.
It’s a prophecy that was fulfilled in 1919.

First thing, The Bible is the ONLY prophetic book in the world with a 100% track record, and true, pure science VALIDATES The Bible at every encounter, which, is of no surprise, since it was written there, before man had a clue. Where do ya think all these "brilliant" minds got the ideas to puzzle out? We will know, in His time, not ours.
Jeff M | Feb 01, 2010
it cannot be completely true in all aspects. there are numerous contradictions. however, i believe the message or gospel to be true through scripture and history and faith. Jesus walked this earth and died on the cross. I just believe him to be the saviour.

I was a christian at one point in my life. But that so called "god" forsake me. So, in all reality, there is no physical evidence that supports the bible. I mean, yeah, there are things that prove it is historically accurate, but it is completely farfetched and completely irrelevant. Also, if you look at almost all religions, all the creations of earth are simmilar, all of them have a ‘great flood’ and its all too similar. They stole stories from eachother, which proves that it is comepletely inaccurate and farfetched.
Alan | Feb 01, 2010
My opinion is that anything that was written down was what was intended to be kept for later generations. The Words are not only God’s but are divinely inspired - meaning that God’s will was a part of its writing and that leads me to believe that its correct - no reason for Him to inspire the writing of a book by several people and then allow it to be corrupted by little things as typos and omissions.
If it was intended that we know it, then we do. Why would John have written about the angel and then expressly told us that he was instructed to not write those words down? Because they were not for us to know. God has a plan, and we only know pieces of that plan - no one knows the whole except the Father in Heaven.
When the time comes, we will know, but not before then. I trust the Bible implicitly in everything - because the Word of God is everlasting.

lol christians on here saying faith, well how on earth can your religion be respectable if all you have is faith? %100 of the bible is rubbish.
definitely maybe | Feb 01, 2010
I do not worry too much about the Bible. I found Jesus before I read the Bible. I read the Bible to find out more about my Jesus I found. Jesus is the way and the truth. Not the Bible. The Bible is like a map. It only represents the real thing. You don’t need to worry to much about the details. They will make sense as they come to pass.

The bible is not one book, it is many. Part of it is History of what happened to the ancient Jews.

Think of it this way: Has anyone proven the bible to be false?-No What does the bible consist of? -Prophecies. Has any of them came true? Yes all of them came true besides the second coming of Jesus, because there must be a world war 3 in order for Him to come. Why do people don’t believe in it, it’s because they never read it. I didn’t read the whole thing yet, because I receive my salvation in November so I am still a young, born again Christian. Is there evidence? YES-dead seas scrolls, the old scriptures to be found, and it matched up with the old testament in the bible we use today. Kepp in mind, if one thing is false in the bible then the whole thing will be false. AMEN.

they put down what god told them to
he didn’t the holy spirit of god tells us they didn’t
just as a court reporter sits in court and types every thing the judge and attorneys and witnesses say the bible writers did the same thing in putting down god’s word.
no it doesn’t your example was just one part they were told not to write what was said
jesus told john earlier
Rev 1:17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last:
Rev 1:18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.
Rev 1:19 Write the things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter;
john did as he was told
god does not want us to know what the seven thunders said
so no not until we get to heaven he may let us know.
we can trust what god tells us to trust and not to believe what god tells us not to believe.
god tells us what is wrong.
Rom 1:26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
Rom 1:27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
Rom 1:28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
we know by these verses to do these things are wrong
its only obvious it is wrong. god says it is

If you are a Christian you are not entitled to an opinion. Get your nose it that book and study and do what it says, pick the things you like and become fanatic then join that group. Like just up the road they have a Westaboro Church and it’s Pastor Fred Phelps knows all , he will keep your nose glued on tight,

Since it’s written by humans it has to be understood in it’s proper context and through interpretation. It has to be relevant as the living Word of God in today’s society.
‘Exactly true’ isn’t a phrase one would use for Scripture. Old Testament events are often stories to explain causation. For most of human history, story (which conveys our deepest values) has been more important than factual accuracy - that’s a rather new phenomenon. I believe you are referring to the Heresy of Literalism.

It is not a great history. Yet it conveys to those who have intellect and the ability to use it; an understanding of the origin of human development ,and the influence a Primary Being has upon the world.

1) You have chosen to make the assumption that God lacks the power and will to prevent human error from impacting Bible. On what basis do you make that assumption?
2) No one claims that the Bible is "exactly true".
There are many approximations in the Bible. But precision is not necessary for something to be true. (Example: "Joe lives about 40 miles outside of Chicago." That statement can be true despite the approximation.)
The same can be said for the question, "Do you believe in the accuracy of the Bible?" Accuracy is not necessarily a synonym for truth.

Faith Christianity is a faith based religion. You have to believe on faith that the bible is true but allot of it is written in parables that can be interpreted mean different things to different people depending on the life crisis they find them self’s in. And some of the things in the bible the author didn’t know how to describe what he was seeing or being told. Like in Revelations when John would like unto he was trying to describe something in his language that he didn’t have words for. If he saw the great Armageddon There was no word for missile air plane machine guns or any modern war making equipment. So keep this in mind when reading parts of the bible that deal in prophecy. Now if the the author said he saw some thing like the four horse men of the Apocalypse then i thing he saw them.

Remember Jesus said that He would send the Helper, the Holy Spirit reveals to us the truth, he makes clear to us the written word of God. So we who are in Christ, by the Holy Spirit, are shown all man made errors and discrepancies in the written word of God.
2_B_invisible | Feb 01, 2010
you contradict yourself!
Ok, I acknowledge that it’s the word of God
and you totally left out God. He is still in charge. And about the things kept secret, everything will be revealed when the time comes as Jesus said.

You can’t find the truth that is contained in the bible and well hidden from gross minds. You must be on a non-stop search. At length, you will know what you need to and the errors written will be buoys leading you on toward the truth, rather than being the unsolvable stumbling block.

First of all, Scripture never lies, as God does not lie. For the reference you make in the Book of Revelation (there is no "s" at the end - many people write it that way, which shows a lack of reading/paying attention to detail) it states that John was to "seal up the things that the 7 thunders uttered" which John did - how is that not being truthful ??? If John had recorded what the thunders said, then that would not be truthful. Also, for you comment re: the gays - again, it is written in Scripture that those who choose the non hetero way of living will not enter into the Kingdom of God - it does not matter what man says, but what God commands. You have the choice, as do all humankind, to believe in Scripture or not…………perhaps some good Bible studies will help you………..I will provide links for you……….may God be your guide

A disciplined approach to interpreting the Bible is needed. There are various scholarly reasons for the doctrine of plenary inspiration of Sacred Scripture. Those that take the position of Biblical inerrancy do so with the usual provision that the Bible is inerrant in the "original autographs" — the first manuscripts, none of which are extant.
But the Bible is unparalleled among all ancient writings for it’s textual historicity. The New Testament, for example, is simply the best ever example of preserved ancient Greek literature. If we apply the same standards for textual authenticity to the New Testament as we do to any other ancient Greek document, the New Testament is in a class all by itself — embarrassingly so. Nothing else even comes close!
So when the Bible that we have today says … (eg: "gays are an abomination to God", or "if you sin you will go to Hell", etc..), we are reasonably certain that this is what appeared in the original autographs.

The bible, amongst many other things describes also the history of the Jewish people. One only has to look at the book of Numbers to see that they were very meticulous with recording their information.
There’s one thing the bible was not created for; that’s nitpicking.
